The light that hits an object is partially reflected, absorbed and possibly transmitted.
Reflected light + Absorbed light + Transmitted light = 100% of arriving light.
Materials that absorb light and then re-emit a different colour light are rare
(although white objects under ultraviolet black light are familiar).
